Band 6.5
Prompt: A friend from another country is planning to visit you next month. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter: say how you feel about the visit; suggest some things you could do together; give some advice about what to bring. (Begin 'Dear ...,'. Informal register.)
Dear Maria,
I was so happy to hear that you are coming to visit me next month! I have not seen you for a very long time, so I am really excited and I cannot wait to spend time together.
I have already started to think about what we can do when you are here. First, I would like to show you around my city, because there are many beautiful old buildings and a famous museum that you will enjoy. We could also go to the mountains for a day, because the views are amazing. In the evenings, I want to take you to some local restaurants so you can try our traditional food.
I also want to give you some advice about what to bring. The weather here in June is warm during the day, but cold at night, so please bring light clothes and a warm jacket. Do not forget comfortable shoes, because we will walk a lot, and bring an umbrella because sometimes it rains.
I am counting the days until you arrive. Please tell me your flight details so I can pick you up.
See you soon!
Lots of love, Elena

Prompt: A friend from another country is planning to visit you next month. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter: say how you feel about the visit; suggest some things you could do together; give some advice about what to bring. (Begin 'Dear ...,'. Informal register.)
Dear Maria,
I can hardly tell you how thrilled I was to hear that you're finally coming to visit next month! It feels like an age since we last saw each other, and the thought of catching up has made my week.
I've already been dreaming up ways to fill your stay. To begin with, I'd love to give you a proper tour of the city — the old quarter is full of stunning architecture, and there's a museum you'll find fascinating. If the weather cooperates, we could also escape to the mountains for a day; the views are breathtaking and there are some lovely gentle trails. And no visit would be complete without our local cuisine, so I'll take you to a few of my favourite little restaurants.
A quick word on packing: June here is warm by day but surprisingly chilly after dark, so I'd suggest plenty of light layers and one decent jacket. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, since we'll be on our feet a lot, and it's worth packing an umbrella, as the odd shower isn't unheard of.
I'm already counting down the days! Do send me your flight details so I can meet you.
Lots of love, Elena
