Band 6.0

Prompt: The bar chart below shows book sales (in millions) in three formats in a country in 2010, 2015 and 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features.

The graph illustrates book sales (in millions) in three different formats in a given country in three specific years, those being 2010, 2015 and 2020. In the range of 10 years starting in 2010 and ending in 2020 there is a particular trend that can be seen and it suggests that printed books were becoming less likely to be sold and were giving space to e-books and audiobooks, meanwhile those two digital formats kept increasing at a steady rate. In 2010 around 180 million printed books were sold, whereas in 2015 that number decreased to 150 million and in 2020 it became almost 120 million. The same cannot be said for e-books and audiobooks where, in fact, the opposite happened. While in 2010 e-books sold amounted only to around 20 million copies, that number more than doubled in 2015, reaching a staggering 70 million and finally stopping in 2020 at about 90 million e-books. A similar thing happened to audiobooks, which saw a sharp increase in sales, from 5 million, to 20 and finally to almost 50 million in the span of 10 years.
