Chart for: Online store orders and order value (mixed chart)

The chart shows the number of monthly orders, in thousands, and the average order value, in US dollars, for an online store over the first six months of the year.

Overall, the number of orders rose substantially over the period, ending at its highest point in June. The average order value, by contrast, first declined before recovering strongly to reach its peak in the same month.

The volume of orders began at 20,000 in January and climbed to 30,000 by March. It then dipped slightly to 28,000 in April before rising again to 35,000 in May and peaking at 40,000 in June, double the January figure.

The average order value followed a different early pattern. It started at 45 dollars in January and fell over the next two months to a low of 40 dollars in March. From April onwards, however, it increased steadily, rising to 48 dollars and then to 50 dollars in May, before reaching a high of 55 dollars in June. Thus, by the end of the period, both the number of orders and the amount spent per order were at their highest levels.
