Band 5.5
Prompt: In the modern world, large cities are becoming too crowded and expensive. Governments should encourage businesses and workers to move out of major cities and into smaller regional towns. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In this contemporary world, major metropolitan cities are being chosen by individuals and making them harder to afford to reside. While some people believe that higher authorities have to step up by pushing businesses to expand in rural regions and letting workers to live in such small towns, others reject this notion. However, I disagree with the former statement. This essay will analyse my viewpoints by demonstrating the examples and proving the arguments.
To begin with, such a push from government can not only bring growth in the rural communities but also rise in the career opportunities. To illustrate, due to development of large factories and powerplants of businesses, people of such small towns will be able to gain financial benefit as the commute to work would be lesser and convenient, making their life way more easier than before. For example, Government of Canada has been providing aid to companies who want to establish into small town. Also, permanent residency is also one of the ways of government to push skilled workers into such towns up in the North. Hence, a small step taking by high rank officials will make being a change in the rural regions on account of the shift of businesses as well as workers.
However, moving and residing in small towns is one's personal choice. If a forceful act is imposed, individuals will not be able to sustain in the regions owing to the lack of experience, surviving in such regions. Now, considering the side of businesses, The cost operating and running the business in small communities will be way more than running in major cities. To make it clear, based on the article, businesses in the region of Atlantic region of Canada are facing problems such as costlier transportation, scarcity of raw materials and cost of running the business, such as skilled workers will be less, so their ask for pay will be also high than the other regions. Hence, considering the points of personal choice and big companies cost of operation are also sufficient points to counter the argument.
Though such a trend has a beneficial impact of development and growth in the small towns, people's personal choices and running the businesses in such small regions would have a greater impact making hard for the society to accept a trend like this.
