Chart for: Weekly podcast listening by age (bar chart)

The bar chart shows the percentage of adults in five different age groups who listened to podcasts every week in 2024.

Overall, weekly podcast listening was most popular among younger adults and became less common with each older age group. The oldest group listened the least.

The youngest group, aged 18–29, had the highest figure, with 45% listening to podcasts weekly. This was followed by the 30–39 age group at 38%. The percentage then dropped to 27% for people aged 40–49.

Listening continued to fall in the older groups. Only 18% of adults aged 50–59 listened to podcasts each week, and the figure was lowest for those aged 60 and over, at just 9%. This means the youngest group was five times more likely to listen than the oldest group. Podcast listening therefore decreased steadily as age increased.

Chart for: Weekly podcast listening by age (bar chart)

The bar chart illustrates the percentage of adults in five age groups who listened to podcasts on a weekly basis in 2024.

Overall, weekly podcast listening was strongly linked to age, with the youngest adults far more likely to listen than the oldest. The proportion of listeners fell consistently as age increased.

Adults aged 18–29 were the most engaged, with 45% listening to podcasts each week. This was followed by the 30–39 age group, of whom 38% were regular listeners. The two youngest groups therefore accounted for the highest levels of engagement by a clear margin.

Beyond the age of 40, the figures dropped more noticeably. Just over a quarter of those aged 40–49 (27%) listened weekly, while the rate among 50–59 year-olds fell to 18%. The oldest group, aged 60 and above, showed the least interest, with only 9% listening to podcasts on a weekly basis. This meant that younger adults were roughly five times more likely to be weekly listeners than the over-60s.
